Ingredients

  • 1 lb sweet potato cut into 1-inch cubes (about 1 medium sweet potato)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
Brown Sugar-Cinnamon Option:
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar packed
  • 1-2 tablespoon maple syrup optional; you may also use honey (non-vegan)
Savory Spiced Option
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin

Method

  1. Combine sweet potato chunks, olive oil, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add cinnamon and toss to coat evenly if preparing the cinnamon-brown sugar variation.
  3. Incorporate smoked paprika, black pepper, cayenne, garlic powder, and cumin for the savory variation, then toss to coat evenly.
  4. Arrange the potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary, and cook at 400°F for 14-16 minutes until tender and crispy, shaking the basket halfway through.
  5. Remove the cinnamon-brown sugar version from the air fryer, toss with brown sugar, drizzle with maple syrup, and serve immediately.

Notes

Oil-Free version: To make these air fryer sweet potato chunks with no oil, you can replace the olive oil and with 1 teaspoon maple syrup. You may need to cook the potatoes a bit longer to crisp up the edges.
Air fryer cook time: Cook times vary widely with different air fryer brands and sizes, so be sure to check on your potatoes a few times during cooking. You may need to cook them a little less or more than expected to achieve the desired crispness.
