How to Make a Classic Beef Burrito at Home

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning 1 oz (28 g)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water or beef broth
  • 1 cup (240 ml) refried beans
  • 2 cups (480 ml) cooked Mexican rice
  • 4 burrito sized flour tortillas
  • 2 cups (480 ml) Fritos or Doritos
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cheese dip warmed
  • 1 cup (240 ml) shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) sour cream
  • Salsa if desired

Method
 

  1. Brown the ground beef in a sauté pan until it is no longer pink.
  2. Add the taco seasoning and water, then stir and cook for one minute.
  3. Mix in the refried beans and adjust the consistency as necessary.
  4. Prepare or heat the Mexican rice.
  5. Microwave the tortillas for 30 seconds until warm.
  6. Layer the beef mixture, rice, chips, cheese dip, shredded cheese, and sour cream onto the tortilla.
  7. Fold in the sides and roll the tortilla into a burrito.
  8. Toast the burrito in a skillet if desired and serve with salsa.

Notes

The Crunch Factor: I've found that using Nacho Cheese Doritos instead of Fritos adds an incredible punch of flavor, but you should serve them immediately so the chips stay perfectly crispy.
