Ingredients

Burger Ingredients:
  • 2 lb ground chuck beef (80/20)
  • fine sea salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
Classic Cheeseburger Toppings:
  • 6 burger buns
  • 6 slices medium cheddar cheese (thick sliced)
  • 1 large tomato sliced into 8 rings
  • 12 leaves green leaf lettuce
  • 1/2 medium red onion thinly sliced into rings
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle slices

Method

  1. Slice and prepare all burger toppings and sauces.
  2. Spread softened or melted butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast them on a skillet or grill until golden brown.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium heat. Divide the ground beef into six 1/3-pound portions and form patties approximately 1/2-inch thick and 1 inch wider than the burger buns. Season the patties generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Grill the patties covered and indent-side up for 3 to 5 minutes per side. Flip the burgers once juices accumulate on top and a sear forms. Add cheese during the final 1 to 2 minutes of grilling, cover, and cook until the internal temperature reaches 155°F. Rest the patties for 5 minutes before serving to reach a final temperature of 160°F.
